  1. I like the phrase “it’s powerful to see narratives where women are allowed to own heroic space”, a sentiment that is not the exclusive domain of women. Even well-intentioned films like Their Finest, directed by a woman, can end up being celebrations of male heroics to the exclusion of women’s achievements. There are not many male directors who have the bi-lateral gender sensitivities to grant the ownership of heroic space to women. Great post.

  2. What a great comment! Public dialogue on this topic is so necessary. Many, even in the film industry, remain unaware this is still a live issue. Loved your review of Their Finest. Directors, especially female, are answerable to their funding sources, the business end of production: Producers and Distributors. But I do love the ‘movie within a movie’ genre, and at least the narrative shines a light on an ongoing lack of the female voices ‘below the line’. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
